I did take the back off to see if the hinge assembly was broken, but the affixing points seem just fine. It looks like one of the hinges itself has skipped a gear of sorts internally. No noise = misaligned hinge cap not hitting anything. This manual alsop has the part numbers etc. as well. While you work on your laptop, take lots of pictures.
