Most likely, the original head was an 8060 head. Some Sm's and MTA's had 8574 heads. Both heads will give you a smooth running tractor giving you 45 hp. Stay away from the 8704 head which is the distillate head. Yes, the 400 and 450 gas heads will work. Not sure of the numbers. The 450 LP head # is 364586. The gas 400 head # might be 356994. Posted April 28, 2022. IH didn't change the total 25 degree advance on a 400 gas when fire craters were installed. Other models like M and SM fire crater kits used 22 degrees total advance. IH preferred the total advance be set at full RPM and idle advance fall wherever unless the distributor was warn.
