Fruit Bats are good if you want to rush some of the harder community center bundles and get some good gifting items without needing to invest in fruit trees, and it's less maintenance-heavy then the mushroom boxes since you can have as many fruits in the cave as there are empty floor spaces.

Bats give you all kinds of different fruit, you don't have to spend thousands buying fruit trees and waiting a season for them to grow, and I just find having fruit more versatile, are needed for more quests, can be used as gifts, etc. Mushrooms have way fewer uses and to me, the fruit option is more useful for endgame than mushrooms.
