If you ever plan on fuel injecting this engine this would be the time to upgrade the fuel line diameters and go ahead and use some adaptors to connect the flex lines. The 1/4 inch diameter return line is just to small for fuel injection.The factory fuel filter, was installed level horizontally at a height that was slightly higher than the inlet of the carb. It also had a hard-line with a loop in it, between the filter and the carb. This prevents fuel from draining back to the pump, and makes start-ups faster. I just got my '89 YJ if the mechanical fuel pump compensates for too much pressure downstream. He also broke the fuel fill vent, so I'm replacing the tank, and thus all fuel lines - will restore it to normal config with fuel supply and return lines and vent line to cannister unless someone knows that a return line is not really needed.
