The P228 is one of the few P-series guns discontinued by Sig, joining the ranks of the less commonly-known DAO P224, the single-stack P225 (P6), and the 10+1 shot .45 ACP P227, the latter was ...The P228 was discontinued, or at least uncatalogued, from general commercial sales, back around 2005, I think. There have been small runs of "P228"s since then when SIG put P228 carbon steel slides on various P229 frames, and, of course, SIG continues to make P228s as fulfillment of the military M11 contract. The SIG M11-A1-D is one fine firearm and fits in nicely with my other SIGs, P239 and P226. I added a Crimson Trace Laser grip and had trigger work completed. My gunsmith reduced the first pull to 7 lbs. to match my other SIGs. As of today, I have shot around 200 rounds with zero malfunctions. I will be using the M11-A1 as my EDC piece.
