Got the new starter motor in, but couldn't get any juice through to the motor. Here is some of what I did to diagnose this.

To verify voltage, yes, measure between the red wire on the starter to the ground post on the battery. You should get the same measurement between the red wire and almost any big piece of clean metal on the tractor.

It started right up, ran for 15 minutes and quit. No spark to the plugs! Following the service manual tests, the coil must be bad. Missing under load is a classic symptom of a secondary ignition issue. This is especially critical with the wasted spark system as both plugs fire in series at the same time.
