Gen 1's use a black follower, Gen 2's foliage green greyish. Gen 3 has a black follower again I believe but can be easily identified by the grip enhancement stippling, and the smaller base plate.

When I first got into PMAGs back in 2009 with the introduction of the Gen 2 PMAG I noticed that the followers just barely engaged the bolt catch. I also noticed the same thing with the first versions of the Gen 3 PMAG... Lancer AWMs have always had the same issue (though slightly worse), and I've only tested this in Colt rifles.
